AJA KUMO 16x16 Compact 12G-SDI Router

Overview

KUMO 1616-12G offers the perfect size for combining multiple cameras, monitors, editing systems, tape decks and file based recorders into a seamless workflow with a compact 1RU profile and support for 12G-SDI/6G-SDI/3G-SDI/1.5G-SDI from 16x 12G-SDI inputs and 16x 12G-SDI outputs. Supports ganged dual and quad port routing control, allowing users to group together multiple inputs and outputs for Dual Link, Quad Link 4K/UltraHD, and 8K/UltraHD2 workflows.

KUMO 12G-SDI routers support large format resolutions, high frame rate (HFR) and deep color formats, while reducing cable counts when transporting 4K/UltraHD over SDI. The routers offer network-based and/or physical control using KUMO CP and CP2, and mirror the physical form of AJA’s production-proven KUMO 3232 and KUMO 1616 routers, with a USB port for configuring IP addresses via AJA’s eMini-Setup software.

Built to the same quality standards as all AJA KUMO products, KUMO 1616-12G is the ideal choice for any situation where a balance of size and capacity are critical such as mid-sized post facilities and mobile trucks.

Powerful Signal Management

KUMO 1616-12G’s powerful cross-point routing matrix maps any input to any number of outputs without the need for additional patch panels or distribution amplifiers. Use KUMO 1616-12G as an affordable distribution amplifier by routing a single input to all outputs. Used in this way, a KUMO 1616-12G can take the place of multiple distribution amplifiers.

As 8K emerges and 4K/UltraHD workflows continue to gain ground, KUMO routers can meet the rising challenge. KUMO 12G-SDI routers offer single-link cable simplicity for 4K/UltraHD and with a simple setting change, KUMO 12G-SDI routers can be configured for ganged dual link or quad link routing allowing users to group together multiple inputs and outputs for 8K workflows and similarly, KUMO 3G-SDI routers for dual or quad link 4K/UltraHD workflows. This allows routing of raw or 8K or 4K/UltraHD signals throughout a production, live event, OB truck or post facility.

Compact Routing

KUMO compact SDI routers provide powerful signal control and support full broadcast specifications over 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI, with quality that exceeds SMPTE specifications. The super-compact 1RU and 2RU  and 4RU formats are just a few inches deep, making them a perfect fit for any broadcast, production, or post production environment, from mobile sports trucks and edit suites, through to corporate video installations or live theatrical A/V rigs.

KUMO SDI routers are available in seven configurations: Three for 12G/6G/3G/1.5G-SDI and four for 3G/1.5G-SDI routing needs.

For 12G-SDI, look to KUMO 3232-12G for 32x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs or KUMO 1616-12G for 16x 12G-SDI inputs and outputs.

For 3G-SDI look to KUMO 6464 for 64x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs, KUMO 3232 for 32x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs, and KUMO 1616 for 16x 3G-SDI inputs and outputs.

Salvo Simplicity

Salvos allow an operator to quickly route a predefined set of crosspoints, connecting specific sources to destinations, at the push of a button. Salvos are easily created by simply setting up the desired routes and saving it to a button in the KUMO router’s Web UI.

Up to eight salvos can be stored in a KUMO router and can be instantly recalled via the KUMO router’s Web UI, GVG Native Protocol over Ethernet, RS-422, and/or the AJA KUMO CP2 Salvo buttons.

Broadcast Standard Reliability

Designed for critical broadcast, production and post environments, KUMO routers are built to AJA standards that exceed SMPTE specifications. The use of premium components coupled with dual redundant power supplies ensures the highest signal quality and maximum uptime even in the unexpected event of a power supply failure.

Redundant Power Supplies

Routing sits at the heart of your signal matrix needs, connecting one critical device to another.  To ensure maximum uptime in the unlikely event of a power supply failure, KUMO offers redundant power supply options that can failover with zero disruption to operations.

Simple Installation and Configuration

Running Embedded Linux, KUMO routers are network ready and support powerful HTTP control and monitoring via a web browser - without the need for any additional software.

KUMO's USB port connection allows easy IP configuration using free AJA eMini-Setup software. KUMO's auto-detect Bonjour™/Zeroconf protocols mean that network configuration can also be automatic, just connect KUMO to your network or a computer and the system will self-configure, ready for use. Alternatively, standard network configuration allows access to each KUMO via its default IP address. Once connected to KUMO using a web browser, you can configure the full TCP/IP settings, select and name KUMO routers, name sources and destinations, and perform all operational functions including crosspoint selection and salvo execution.

KUMO routers are easily integrated with existing infrastructure utilizing the industry-standard Grass Valley Native Protocol over RS-422 or even Ethernet. Ethernet network connectivity also allows you to control all KUMO routers from any web browser on a network-connected device, ensuring you have the control you need from any location.

KUMO CP2 and KUMO CP

KUMO CP2 and KUMO CP are optional control panels that can be used in standalone or networked configurations.

Connecting via Ethernet to the same network as the KUMO routers, KUMO CP and KUMO CP2 enable full control from any location without the need for a computer. Up to four KUMO routers can be controlled from a single control panel.

KUMO CP2 offers direct access to all 32 inputs and 32 outputs for the KUMO range up through the KUMO 3232-12G, and with a simple click of the shift key, addresses all 64 inputs and outputs of the KUMO 6464 models. This control panel also offers direct control of a KUMO router’s eight salvos.

Affordable

Whether you’re building a mobile truck, edit suites or an AV flypack, get the routing capabilities you need at a price that fits well within your budget. KUMO routers are so affordable they can even be used in place of traditional DAs to distribute signals to multiple locations. KUMO routers provide an incredible price/performance ratio while still maintaining the highest quality standards.
